YK Bourbon Double Cask Aged (SCA 87+)

YK Bourbon Double Cask Aged is a washed single origin from Chikmagalur, Karnataka, grown at 1,200 metres and rested as green beans for three months in double cask barrels, with no alcohol added at any stage. The clean washed cup leaves room for the barrel to come through, and we roast it medium, where we found the coffee and the cask sit best together. Expect bourbon whiskey, vanilla and brown sugar up front, cherry and raisins in the middle, and a long oak finish, with low acidity, medium sweetness and a medium body. It’s an easy coffee to get right: pull it as espresso for the fullest version, add milk and the vanilla and brown sugar turn almost dessert-like, or brew it black or as a pour-over for a lighter cup where the cherry and raisin show more.
